I actually thought it had a number of things going for it (its shot in scope and looks great, has one or two solid scares, a few typically "Romero" well-written scenes and a music score that I especially liked) but the huge tonal shifts, poor acting, terrible comedic sequences and absolutely wretched CGI gore knocked it down a couple of pegs. It's sad to say but the way mainstream horror has developed over the last 5 years or so (becoming much more serious, gory and envelope-pushing), Romero has become kind of....I don't know, quaint. His movies just don't SHOCK anymore (even though you know that he's still TRYING to push the boundaries). The gore here is pretty pedestrian, and the stuff that tries to unique just come off as stupid (i.e. the fire extinguisher gag). It's good to see him still working and this isn't the embarassment I had feared it might be but after LAND, DIARY and SURVIVAL it's just hard to get super excited about a Romero zombie film anymore (and I can't believe I just said that...).Richard Kastanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07389431351872443337noreply@blogger.com
